Pulp-and-paper production is a rather developed industry in the Republic of Belarus; more than 10 enterprises of the branch are functioning in the country. But utilization of industrial wastes of pulp-and-paper manufacturing appears a serious ecological problem. Sewage sludge, gravitating on the bottoms of sewage treatment works, contaminates large valuable agricultural areas. Physical methods of sewage sludge retreatment lead to exhalation of poisonous substances (nitrogen oxide, sulfur oxide, heavy metals) in water-soluble form; chemical retreatment methods cause air contamination with dangerous volatile substances. The main goal of the research appears investigation of the possibility of application of vermicomposting method for ecologically safety retreatment of sewage sludge of pulp-and paper industry. The description of the experiment on the analysis of the effectiveness of vermicomposting technology for processing of the sewage of pulp-and-paper production has been carried out. The received results can find their practical application at the vermi-production organization on the basis of the main production of the pulp-and-paper enterprises of the Republic of Belarus.
