A study of using bleeding bag in production of Snake and scorpion antivenins.

In the present study the blood collecting bags with two compartments were used. In the first compartment containing 250 ml of sterile sodium citrate, 5 litters of horse blood was collected and after sedimentation of cells, the plasma was transferred to second compartment which found to be 3.5 litters. The transfer of plasma was carried out by pressing the first compartment. The tests carried out on the plasma and serum showed that both were pyrogen free with high potency of neutralization of venom. Physicochemical studies on the serum also showed the expected results. In conclusion the present study revealed that using blood collecting bags reduce the chance of contamination and on the other hand the cells can be retransferred to the horses after the plasma was separated.
