Microalgae with high oil productivity are chosen as a source of biofuel. Added benefits of microalgae include their high biomass yield and high utilization of COZ. The integration of the two objectives i.e. carbon sequestration with the biofuel production can further promotes the effective utilization of microalgae. The aim of present work was to assess the carbon sequestration potential of a native microalgal species, Botrydiopsis arhiza Borzi. The cultures were maintained under optimal culture conditions in the lab and carbon sequestration potential was estimated on the basis of biomass productivity (g/L) in culture medium. Under optimal conditions the average growth rate of B. arhiza was found to be 1.15 g/L/day and the carbon fixation rate as equivalent to 1.84 g/L/day.
