Limbing belongs to the most laborious of cutting-production process. In tills paper the optimal solution of the head construction frorn the viewpoint of its form and tool geometry is given. At the same time it deals with cutting conditions at limbing. The proposal for limbing knives the viewpoint of their number and their advance trajectory to the stem surface is given. The possibilities of the utilization of computing technics at designing of limbing heads of a given the optimal construction solution (knife head).
