Testing of agroforestry trees and bamboo species for rehabilitation and increased productivity of grasslands and riverbanks of Quezon Province[Philippines]

Three studies were conducted in the areas within and around Mt. Banahaw-San Cristobal Protected Landscape. Two studies were in the grassland area are the slopes of Mt. San Cristobal in Brgy. [Village] Sta. Lucia, Dolores Quezon to (1) determine the best month of planting Gliricidia sepium cuttings, and (2)determine the effect of fertilizer applications on the growth of Annona muricata. The third study involved determining the effect of river proximity on growth of Bambusa vulgaris in a riparian area at Brgy. Camaysa, Tayabas City. For G. sepium, parameters (percent survival and number of sprouts) were measured one month after planting. Results showed that in terms of survival alone, October is the least recommended month, while for the second parameter, December planting yielded significantly highest number of sprouts. As for the A. muricata and B. vulgaris, results showed no significant difference among treatments. The treatments were application of MykoVAM, amonium sulfate, and no fertilizer (control) for the A. muricata experiments, while far, near, and mid distances from the river for the B. vulgaris.
