Groundwater vulnerability assessment methods have increasingly been used for protection of water resources lately. Maps which are obtained by applying these methods are particularly important because they represent a significant background in determining the sanitary protection zones, as well as in spatial planning. The issue of groundwater protection is particularly evident in National parks and nature parks, because despite the fact that these goods are the highest forms of environmental protection, protection of ground water is not satisfactory. The choice of method for groundwater vulnerability assessment is an important task because the quality and the speed of vulnerability maps production will depend on the selected method. This paper describes the use of DRASTIC method to assess groundwater vulnerability of National park Djerdap and Nature park Tara. Complex geological and hydrogeological structures of selected terrains justify the choice of the method which is very suitable for groundwater vulnerability assessment of large areas. Application of DRASTIC method requires development of separate maps, showing the impact of the analysed parameters on groundwater vulnerability in total. Due to the size of the exploration area and the complexity of geological conditions, the most difficult was to determine factor D (depth to groundwater) and factor R (recharge). That is why this paper is focused on defining these two parameters.
