Response surface methodology in optimisation of dimetachlor extraction from water samples

Dimetachlor is the herbicide used for oilseed rape protection. Previous research has shown that the herbicide dimetachlor is susceptible for leaching through soil layers. Due to a high mobility in soil profile, dimethachlor can reach the groundwater. For the purposes of further research dimetachlor fate in the environment, method of extraction from aqueous samples is optimized using a standard response surface method design, called a central composite design (CCD). Oasis HLB cartridges were used for solid phase extraction. Recovery of the extractions investigated under different experimental conditions. Three levels of pH value, solvent volume, analyte concentration and solvent composition were used. Dimetachlor concentrations were determined using GC-MS in the SIM mode. The recovery results were used to fit the quadratic model. The solvent mixture and pH value of spiked water were the most influential factors on the extraction recovery.
