Water quality monitoring in the Drina River Basin in the Republic of Serbia

This paper gives a short overview of surface water and groundwater quality monitoring in the Drina River Basin in the territory of the Republic of Serbia, pursuant to the national legislation in water sector. Some parameters of surface water quality are presented that are analyzed in the laboratory of the Serbian Environmental Protection Agency according to the EU Water Framework Directive and are used for the assessment of ecological and chemical status of water. Also, some examined parameters of groundwater quality are given. Based on examination results from 2010 and 2011, the assessment of water quality has been provided as well as comments on the identified trend on the Drina and Lim Rivers are given. Some of the main international cooperation activities that are successfully conducted for many years are mentioned.
