A new maize hybrid VN595 was released by National Maize Research Institute from crossed combination C89N x G1237, in which the C89N line was developed from CP999 variety by combining fullsib and selfing method and G1237 was created from crossed combination P4097 by selfing method. Results of breeding and testing showed that VN595 is the medium early maturing maize hybrid (95 to 110 days), has strong stems, durable green leaf and rust resistance. However, this variety also light effected by sheath blight and grey leaf spot diseases. VN595 has some excellent characteristics such as: big and well-filled ear; the orange kernel color that is suitable with customer's taste and wildly adaptation, specially this variety adapted with East-Southern and Center High land regions of Vietnam. The potential yield of VN595 is high that can be reached 7 -11 tons per hectare. VN595 is a promising hybrid in productive development and was recognized by MARD for the trial production from 2013 (Decision no.362/QD-TT-CLT dated 14/8/2013).
