Farmer decisions to adopt genetically modified crops.
2006
Alexander, C.
This article reviews the literature on farmer decision-making related to genetically modified (GM) crops. The literature based on farmer surveys, linear programming models and yield trials clearly shows that the adoption of GM crops benefits many farmers, but not all and that these benefits depend on the specific characteristics of the producer and the operation. Research on farmer adoption of GM crops provides insight into the interaction between farmers human capital, information and their risk preferences. As new GM crops are introduced or receive approval for planting, research will continue to be needed to understand which farmers will benefit.
