The article introduces the concept of sand, differences in the grain size (granulometric) classifications, as well as sorting under the natural conditions. Sand mineralogical composition is briefly described and also referred to the heavy mineral concentrate in the beach sand. The Devonian and Jurassic sand with high quartz content is also characterised in the text. The largest sand reserves contain the Quaternary sediment cover, especially 15 in those relief forms which created under glaciofluvial and glaciolimnic processes. Very important and still insufficiently explored sand reserves are in the glaciotectonically deformed intermorainic deposit strata hilly massives, hilly ridges and other glacigenic relief forms.
