High yielding environment adaptability test for selected F1 rice

The high yield potential of a rice variety depends significantly on the type of variety and the ecosystem into which it is grown in the Philippines, Northern Luzon, particularly Region II, which includes Isabela and Cagayan are considered high-yielding rice environments due to the vast and fertile lowland ecosystem in the Region. Up to now, Isabela and Cagayan have been producing the highest yield potential for hybrid rice. In 2014, dry season, Syngenta Philippines was able to produce 10.54 t/ha (at 14% grain moisture content) with a production cost of P 4.94/kg paddy yield in PhilRice, Isabela, thus evaluating the high yield ability of newly developed hybrid lines is necessary in these areas. The project High-yielding Environment Adaptability Test (HYEAT) of F1 was established in two identified station-based sites (1) PhilRice Isabela and (2) Southern Cagayan Research Center (SCRC). Four NCT promising hybrid lines (PR39385H, PR47216H, PR39375H, PR36577H), and two newly released hybrids (Mestiso 48 and Mestiso 55) were evaluated based on yield and other pertinent agronomic traits like average plant height, number of productive tillers, 50% flowering maturity and 1000 grain weight data. Mestiso 48, Mestiso 55, PR39385H and PR47216H matured at 116 DAS while PR39375H matured at 114 DAS and PR36575H at 111 DAS. In wet season 2016 at PhilRice Isabela, PR39375H obtained the highest average yield of 6.29 t/ha followed by Mestiso 48 at 6.26 t/ha. While at the SCRC, PR39385H showed the highest yield at 5.87 t/ha followed by Mestiso 55 at 5.59 t/ha. In dry season 2017 at Isabela condition, PR40638H obtained the highest yield at 6.03 t/ha followed by PR39385H at 5.53 t/ha. Based on the two seasons, PR39375H and PR40638H attained the highest weight in 1000 grain and fertility percentage as indication in positive response to high yielding environment.
