Growth response of Labeo rohita fingerlings fed with diet containing probiotics Saccharomyces cerevisiae
2015
Batool, A.
The present research work was conducted to study the growth response of Labeo rohita fingerlings fed with diet containing different percentage of probiotics. The experiment was conducted in the earthen ponds at Fisheries Research Farms, Department of Zoology, Wildlife and Fisheries. The feed given to fish fingerlings in control pond was without probiotics, while the treated fingerlings were fed with a diet containing 3% and 7% probiotics. The fish growth was monitored in terms of wet weights, fork length and total length gain. However, feed conversion ratio (FCR), and specific growth rate (SGR) were measured. The fish weight showed statistically significant variation between treatments. Fish fed with probiotic diets showed greater weight gain of 11.0 g in 7% probiotic and 7.40 g in 3% probiotic than that of control (5.40). Fork length and total length increments in treated and control medium showed almost similar trend as in weight. The feed conversion ratio and specific growth rate of fish varied significantly among treatments.
