Diversity and prey-predator relationship of macro-invertebrates among maize crop fields

Agricultural sector plays an important role in economy of Pakistan. Maize belongs to the family Germaine, and it is an important cereal crop after wheat and rice. It is a source of carbohydrate such as 70% starch, 10% protein, 4.8% oil, 5.8% fiber, 3.0% sugar, and ash is about 1.7%. Prey-predator relationship provides an understanding of species relations in food webs. The abundance and diversity of the macro- invertebrates in agro-ecosystem depends on providing the basic survival needs. The current study was conducted to find out the prey-predator relationship and biodiversity of macro-invertebrates in maize crop. Data of macro-invertebrates was collected randomly from three different sites of district Faisalabad, Thikri wala, Chanchal wala and University of Agriculture and with the help of Shannon Weiner Diversity index the diversity, evenness and dominance was calculated. Shannon diversity index (H') was calculated from maize of three different sites and noted as 2.9505, 2.849 and 2.9501 respectively. The ultimate goal of this study had to determine the diversity, dominance and evenness of macro-invertebrates in maize crop.
