Heritability and correlation analysis of important traits in upland cotton

The objective of study was to find heritability and correlation of agronomic traits. Correlation showed that plant height associated positively with sympodial branches per plant, number of bolls per plant, boll weight, GOT and seed cotton yield and negatively associated with number of monopodial branches per plant. Monopodial branches had positive association with number of bolls per plant, fiber length and fiber strength while negatively associated with plant height, number of sympodial branches per plant. Sympodial branches per plant showed positive association with plant height, bolls per plant, fiber strength, seed cotton yield and ginning out turn and negatively associated with number of monpodial branches per plant. Boll weight exhibited positive association with plant height, fiber length and seed cotton yield and negatively associated with okra leaf type. Number of bolls per plant showed positive association with plant height, monopodial branches per plant, sympodial branches per plant and seed cotton yield while negatively associated with okra leaf type. Fiber length associated positively with monopodial branches per plant, oval boll shape, boll weight, fiber fineness and fiber strength. Fiber strength associated positively with monopodial and sympodial branches per plant fiber length, fiber fineness, 100 seed weight and seed cotton yield and negatively associated with okra leaf type. Fiber fineness had positive association with fiber length, fiber strength, ginning out turn, 100 seed weight and seed cotton yield and negatively associated with okra leaf type. Ginning out turn percentage positively associated with plant height, sympodial branches per plant, oval boll shape, medium boll size, fiber fineness and seed cotton yield. 100 seed weight positively correlated with fiber strength, fiber fineness ginning out turn and seed cotton yield. Seed cotton yield associated positively with plant height, sympodial branches per plant, boll weight, number of bolls per plant, fiber length, fiber strength, fiber fineness, 100 seed weight and ginning out turn percentage.
