During the research of flora and vegetation of Mt. Jadovnik and its foothill in western Bosnia, 28 species of the Orchidaceae family were recorded. In the ecology of this family, submesophytes, neu- trophytes, subsciophytes and mesoter mophytes are predominant. Regarding the contents of nitrogen in the soil, most species are in the transition from eutrophs to oligotrophs. In the coeno logical struc- ture, the dominant species belong to Querco-Fagetea, Festu co-Brometea and Arrhenatheretea classes. The following species have the widest ecological range: Cephalanthera damasonium, C. longifolia, C. rubra, Epipactis atro ru bens, E. helleborine, Gymnadenia conopsea, Neottia nidus-avis and Platanthera bifolia. From the aspect of phytogeography, the representatives of Centraleuropean and Eurasian group of floral elements are the most abundant, followed by the Atlantic group. According to IUCN classification, 11 species are considered rare (Anacamptis pyramidais, Cephalanthera longifolia, Ceph- alanthera rub ra, Dactylorhiza incar na ta, Dactylo rhiza maculata, Epipactis atro rubens, Listera ovata, Ophrys insectifera, Orchis coriophora, O. triden tata and O. ustulata), 4 are threatened (Corallorhiza trifida, Epipactis palustris, Limodorum abortivum, and Ophrys apifera), and 5 are near threatened (Epipactis helleborine, Neottia nidus-avis, Orchis militaris, Orchis morio and Orchis spitzelii).
