Nutritional characteristics and the possibility of growing in the system of organic production makes buckwheat products widely appreciated on the market of healthy food. The increase in the price of buckwheat in the world has significantly influenced the improvement of the economic position of the producers of this culture. This paper analyses the most important production and economic results achieved in the production of buckwheat on family farms in the Republic of Serbia. Buckwheat production is characterized by relatively low investment per unit area (62,332 din/ha) but, nevertheless, very good economic indicators are achieved in this production (the contribution margin 166,748 din/ha; the cost-effectiveness ratio 3.3; the profit rate 69.7%). The resulting economic parameters represent a good signal for domestic farmers, who can find cost-effective alternatives to traditional cultures present in crop rotation in this production.
