Various studies use holistic and systematic frameworks for analyzing environmental issues, including climate change adaptation (CCA) and disaster risk reduction management (DRRM). However, the increasing number of variables that need to be considered in such frameworks could lead to complex figures that may seem complicated for policy makers and common folk in operationalizing key concepts to manage risks and enhance resiliency. This paper therefore aims to contribute to systems analysis discourse, inherent in the field of environmental science, and 'simplify' CCA and DRRM frameworks by focusing on two distinct variables: 'culture' and 'environment'. Using an indigenous agricultural ritual in Sagada, northern Philippines as a point of discussion, perspectives for (1) understanding and defining culture-environment relationships; (2) incorporating culture-environment relationships for climate change adaptation and resiliency building , and;(3) determining applicable tools for identifying 'culture' and 'environment' variables, are given. Finally, issues and concerns for applying culture-environment relationships in CCA and DRRM frameworks are suggested.
