A mutual relationship between man and nature brings multiple characters,functions and benefits to the landscape. In this study, the landscape structure andcharacter areas are defined based on the basin scale of a multidimensional analysis ofthe benefits offered by Ilgaz Region. The total economic benefits of regional landscapesanalyzed with the titles of food, biological and inorganic raw materials, freshwaterresources, genetic resources and medical & aromatic plants, air quality regulation andclimate protection, water control and erosion prevention, recreation & ecotourism,which are correspond to 630.521.684,828 TL per year; food (agriculture and livestock),freshwater resources, raw materials and historical & cultural assets are the primarybenefits in the light of the views of local people, local administrators and experts.The habitat function has come to the fore in terms of the relationships betweenlandscape structures and landscape benefits, followed by food, freshwater,recreation&ecotourism and historical and cultural functions. In terms of landscapecharacter areas, the benefits based on habitat, recreation and tourism, historical andcultural functions have come to the fore with a strong emphasis on food and rawmaterial functions. Correlation analyzes have shown that habitat functioning areas havea negative relationship with historical & cultural areas, especially with the conservationfunction of national park, nature park, highlands. There is also a negative relationshipbetween the natural areas providing the habitat functions and the agricultural functions.In terms of the sustainable management of landscape benefits for Ilgaz Region,multifunctional areas as the basis for landscape planning studies and decision-makingprocesses have been discussed and mapped with three levels; zones have been definedaccording to the importance of the landscape benefits and landscape protection anddevelopment proposals have been developed to ensure the continuity of the landscapebenefits and the protection zones for the landscapes in the risk assessment.
