To remove the phosphorus from the waste-water at Batumi waste-water treatment plant in order to protect the Black Sea from the eutrophication.

In order to preserve the Black Sea biodiversity and to stop the eutrophication process, chemical treatment of water from phosphorus was at the Batumi treatment plant. Laboratory analyses provided for selection of an effective coagulant and determination of its optimal dose, while the industrial studies – testing of the selected coagulant in the final sedimentation tank of the Batumi treatment plant. As a result of the conducted research, it was established that among the reagents used to remove the phosphorus from the wastewater at the Batumi wastewater treatment plant the most effective are PACS and PAFCL. Their optimal doses are determined to reach P-PO4 MPC (maximum permissible concentrations) up to 1 mg/L, their testing was conducted under industrial conditions in the final sedimentation tank of the wastewater treatment plant and the concomitant results with laboratory studies have been obtained. According to the received results, the usage of PAFCL for the purpose of phosphorus removal from the wastewater ensures an increase in the efficiency of nitrification on trickling filters. As for an increase in the amount of suspended solids in the final sedimentation tank, it results in an increase in the effectiveness of phosphate precipitation. Tab. 2, Fig. 5, Ref. 6.
