Torefierea – o nouă direcţie de sporire a calităţii peleţilor de foc produşi din biomasă autohtonă

The purpose of the present research was to study the possibility of increasing the calorific valueand other properties of the lignocellulosic biomass used for the production of pellets by torrefying it beforeprocessing. The researches were carried out in the Solid Biofuels Laboratory of the State Agrarian University ofMoldova, using standards methods for determining the main qualitative characteristics of the studied biomass.It has been proved that the integration of torrefaction in the technological process of pellet production fromagricultural residues is a reliable means of increasing the calorific value and other properties of the finishedproduct. The effect of torrefaction is mostly pronounced in the case of biomass derived from wheat straw,marking an increase of the low calorific value (dry basis) of the finished product from 17,584 MJ/kg up to 22,752MJ/kg, which represents a relative increase of 29.4%. Based on the performed researches, a new technology ofpellet production from agricultural residues with characteristics corresponding to ENPlus norms was developed.
