Microbiological blood agar with the addition of sheep's blood are very important basis for the listing of a large number of bacteria. The results showed that sheep blood is the most acceptable for a large number of analyzes. Animal blood contains a lower concentration of hemoglobin than human, so you can get recognizable red colors of the substrate on which the hemolyses are well spotted. Blood quality parameters that can be examined in order to obtain higher blood yields and better microbiological bases are: stability of haematological and biochemical parameters of blood during storage, parameters of hemolysis of blood samples, deformation of erythrocytes, inclination of blood to in vitro coagulation. These methods can be applied through the following phases of blood work: primary blood samples taken for haematological and biochemical analysis and for cross-activity test, blood samples taken in the bag and ready for storage up to the time of application in the substrate, blood samples at the end of the storage cycle and after mixing with other blood samples and immediately before placing them in the microbiological basis. All of the above indicates that it is necessary to include hematological and biochemical laboratory in the routine work with the preparation of microbiological blood agar, especially in the case of industrial serial production.
