Growth characteristics variability of autochtonous Black Alder (Alnus glutinosa (L.) Gaertn.) populations in Bien creek basin in orographic unit Kremnické vrchy Mts.

The material for the present work was obtained from eight permanent research areas, which are located in the basin of the stream Bien. Altitude gradient between the individual areas was 50 m. The first research area was located at height of 275 m a.s.l. and the last at height of 625 m a.s.l. In individual areas were selected three level individuals, from which were taken samples from holes of d1,3 by Pressler auger. The aim of the sample taking was to detect the age of individuals, the trend in BAI increase along the altitudinal gradient and their average radial growth. For removal of biological trend as well as creation of standard chronology of the common alder there was used the program ARSTAN ver. 41, which was also used for the calculation of basic statistical parameters. For detrending of inincremet series was used the Hugershoff curve. The impact of altitude on the growth dynamics of the common alder in the basin of the stream Bien was tested using a one-way analysis of variance. Based on the results of autocorrelations and sensitivity we can evaluate that in the territory of the Kremnické vrchy Mts. the common alder has its ecological optimum in the range of altitudes 325 – 375 m a.s.l., with the 1st order autocorrelation values ranging from 0.729 to 0.829 and sensitivity values ranging from 0.196 to 0.241. Based on the results of the average annual growth of the basal area (3363±928) and average volume increase (9.71 m3.ha-1.year-1) it can be stated that in the above-mentioned range of altitudes is also located the production optimum of common alder in the studied area.
