Composting of wastewater treatment sludge with different bulking agents | Farklı tipte katkı maddeleri ile arıtma çamurlarının kompostlanabilirliği
Atalay, Y.
The aim of this study is to determine the composting of food industry wastewater treatment sludge for recovery and disposal by using different types of bulking agent and the impact of these bulking agents (BA) to composting. The food industry sludge mixed with corn cob (CC), wheat straw (WS), sunflower stalks (SS), peanut shell (PS), plane leave (PL), sawdust (S), boll (B) and rice hull (RH) for 21 days in 30 L reactors and the effect of these bulking agent to compost efficiency was investigated. The ratio of bulking agents were 60% WS+ 40% BA and 80% WS+ 20% BA in moist weight. Temperature, moisture content, volatile solids (VS), pH, conductivity (EC), free air space (FAS), C/N Ratio, total kjheldal nitrogen (TKN), ammonium nitrogen (NH4-N) and nitrate (NO3-N) parameteres were monitored during composting. It has been detemined that the usage of corn cob, sunflower stalks, peanut shell and boll with sewage sludge increase the level of compost efficiency and it is found that the usage of these bulking agents suitable to obtain a good compost. The usage of wheat straw, rice hull sawdust and the plane leaves is thought to be possible in different rates and by addition of with co-substrat containing easy degradable carbon.
