The study on quantity and quality of open urban green spaces in the center of Kırklareli province

Green spaces have big importance on creating qualified living environments in urban areas with their functions of ecological, economical, physical, social and esthetic. For this reason; the importance of green spaces increase in urban areas. Needs for green spaces are determined in the scope of this study for Kırklareli city center which rapidly urbanized after the establishment of Kırklareli University in 2007. With this study; the green spaces? base map of Kırklareli city center wanted to be formed and green spaces of Kırklareli city center were examined according to the Turkey green spaces? standards.In this study; firstly the definition and standards of green spaces indicated and natural and cultural features of Kırklareli city center explained. The total green spaces of Kırklareli city center are determined by using survey, on-site monitoring, and analysis and evaluation methods. Kırklareli city center is including 12 neighborhood units and the green spaces of city center are examined in 11 categories. These categories are parks, playgrounds, public enterprises? gardens, military areas, afforestation areas, sport areas, religious construction green spaces, refugees and riparian green spaces. Totally 34 parks, 37 playgrounds and 19 sport areas determined as functional green spaces in Kırklareli city center. Playground areas determined as 0,1 m²/per person which should be 1,5 m²/per person and sport areas determined as 1 m²/per person which should be 2 m²/per person according to the Turkey standards. And finally for the total Kırklareli city center current green spaces measured as 1,8 m²/per person while it should be 10 m²/per person according to the green space standards of Turkey.
