Chemical mutation trials on bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and durum wheat (Triticum durum Defs.) with oat (Avena sativa L.) varieties

In this study, it was aimed to determine the results of induced mutation of different sodium azide doses at different pH levels on bread wheat variety Seri-82 (Triticum aestivum L.), durum wheat variety Kunduru-1149 (Triticum durum Defs.) and oat genotypes A68 (Avena sativa L.) Therefore, the seeds of the genotypes were treated with three different sodium azide doses (10, 15 and 20 mM) at two different pH levels (3 and 4.5). The seeds treated with chemical mutagen (M1) were planted in 2013-2014 cropping season and M2 seeds were obtained. In the study, 2014-2015 cropping season at the trial station of the East Mediterranean Transitional Zone Agricultural Research of Institute and the research was arranged in Augmented experimental design with three replications. In the research, germination ratio (GR), albinos (A), plant height (PH), lodging (L) flag leaf width (FLW), flag leaf length (FLL), panicle / spike length (P / SL), stem diameter (ST), chlorophyll content (CC), vegetative period (VP), grain filling period (GFP), days to maturity (DM), thousand grain weight (1000-GW), grain number per spike / panicle (GNP/S), grain weight per spike / panicle (GWP/S), and yellow rust resistance (YR) traits were investigated at M2 plants. According to the results of the research, significant differences were found for all investigated traits compared to control groups. There were not significant differences for pH levels, while an increase in mutagen effects was determined with increased doses. Plant heights of all plant genotypes were decreased by rising doses except Seri-82 genotype with pH 3 and pH 4.5 doses (15 and 20 mM respectively)
