The current situation of cattle breeding in mountain areas of Georgia, where a fourth of the country's total livestock population is concentrated is discussed. Considered also are such issues as: fodder resources, the local cattle breeds, the live weight-productivity relation, results of a check slaughter, the morphological composition of the carcase, the ways of local breeds’ improvement.
