A study was carried out to serve the effect of levels of urea-based mixtures on one-year-old mango trees at Bukit Bintang, Perlis, under rainfed and irrigated conditions, starting early 1986. This paper reports the result of the trial during the period 1986 to 1989. Four levels of fertilizer mixture (0, 200, 400 and 800 g fertilizer plant E-1) were applied and the plant height and canopy spread during the three-year period were observed. The nutrient content of the leaves was also measured. Fertilizer levels were found not to affect significantly the growth of the trees, as reflected by the changes in plant height and canopy spread. At the highest level of the fertilizer applied, the growth of the trees declined during the first two years. However, fertilizer was found to significantly increase the yield compared with no-content was unaffected by either levels of fertilizer or irrigation.
