Effect of three ranges of ultraviolet(UV) light UV-A(365nm), UV-B (300nm), UV-C (254nm) were investigated on Spodoptera litura nuclear polyhedrosis virus. UV-B and UV-C were found more deleterious than UV-A. There was no deleterious effect when virus was exposed to UV-A for 20 hours but reduced when exposed to UV-B and UV-C for the same time. Viral infectivity was completely destroyed when exposed to UV-B and UV-C for 360 hours. UV-B portion of sunlight is mainly responsible to decrease the viral persistence when applied to the field because sunlight UV spectrum actually reaching the earth surface is UV-A and UV-B (280-3l5nm).
