Morphological and biological characteristics of the Azov-Black Sea shemaya Chalcalburnus chalcoides migrating to the Don for autumn spawning are presented. In order to develop the standards of artificial breeding of the species, we have analyzed such parameters as size and weight of the fish, their age composition, fecundity, gonad state, and have calculated gonado-somatic index.
