The ?One health? concept includes idea that human health and animal health are interdependentand bound to the health of ecosystem in which they exist, since most of the causes of diseases that arecommon to human and animals, exist in our environment. In the wider sense, the ?One health? conceptmeans creation and implementation of different curricula and role books, as well as designing researchprograms in which different sectors communicate in order to improve the ?One health? concept. One of the greatest challenges for veterinary profession in future, especially in the veterinaryeducation field, will be positioning of veterinary profession as leader in the ?One health? concept. It isnecessary to change current curricula in a way that the ?One health? concept should be included inundergraduate and postgraduate studies of veterinary medicine, as well as in the programs of continualeducation of doctors of veterinary medicines. During the establishment of this concept, interdisciplinaryapproach and good communication among subjects included in animal, human and ecosystem health isessential. World organization for Animal Health (OIE) is one of the global leaders who recognized theimportance of introducing the ?One health? concept in veterinary education. In the near future, veterinaryeducation in Serbia must include this segment in all study levels, including continual education.
