Histological assesments on Bursa of fabricius and thymus of chukar partridge (Alectoris chukar) and pheasant (Phasianus colchicus)

In this thesis, bursa of Fabricius where is the formation of B lymphocytes and thymus where is the formation of T lymphocytes, which the lymphoid organs is responsible in body's immun system of chukar partridge (Alectoris chukar) and pheasant (Phasianus colchicus), histologically were compared and evaluated.In the study, three chukar partridge and three pheasant were provided from Suleyman Demirel University Department of Animal Science Poultry Breeding Unit. Bursa Fabricius and thymus tissues were taken from the dissection. It was performed hematoxylin-eosin and Masson's trichrome for general histological examination, and periodic acid schiff (PAS) for the neutral mucosubstance and carbohydrate content, methyl green-pyronin staining for the plasma cells. Van gieson with Weigert's hematoxylin staining was performed for major cells of thymus. Toluidine blue and alcian blue/safranin O combination procedure was performed to show the mast cells.The thymus and bursa of Fabricius of cortex and medulla region, lymphocytes, plasma and mast cells were measured and were calculated the average values at chukar partridge and pheasant. Also, the photo was taken in the preparation with Leica DM 500 microscope. As a result, the thymus and bursa of Fabricius tissues were not observed significant differences between the chukar partridge and pheasant species.
