Most tourism-trade related activities suppose certain stability of climatic conditions and their seasonalcourses. The climate change impacts can cause adverse consequences for the natural and also forthe socio-economic environment. Consequently, there is a potential risk for touristic destinations, considering their potential, profitability and numbers of people visiting these localities. The region ofthe Štiavnické vrchy Mts displays a considerable landscape and cultural-historic potential, offering, together with many cultural and sport activities, a solid background for the basic menu of the tourismtrade. The relatively mild climate of the region provides perfect conditions for tourism activitiesdevelopment, allowing to perform all-year-round activities. This work presents a detailed evaluation ofthe climate developmental trends for the studied region, with a special focus on climatic indicators (thenumber of summer days, hot and freezing days, frequency of rainless periods), in the BanskáŠtiavnica region (48°26' N, 18°55' E, 575 m a.s.l., Central Slovakia). An additional drought-relatedresearch was also carried out with using the climate water-balance data. We present assessment oftrends of climatic characteristics calculated using the meteorological data measures at the stationBanská Štiavnica during the period 2000–2017. Our results have confirmed the significant increase inair temperature and in the number of drought periods along with the occurrence of abnormal orextreme weather fluctuations in the Štiavnické vrchy Mts, continually observed over the recent years.
