Survey of mammal and bird species at eight game / forest reserves

This is a continuation of the previous study. The report covers part of the area in Ulu Lepar Forest Reserve, Pahang; Taman Negara, Pahang; Endau Forest Reserve. Johore; The proposed Sungai Nenggiri Wildlife Reserve, Kelantan. Bird ringing and observation was also carried out in some part of the Perlis Forest Reserves, Sungkai Wildlife Reserve, Perak; Krau Wildlife Reserve, Kuala Lompat, Pahang; and Gunung Jerai Forest Reserve, Kedah. The study took about 83 working days. The areas covered consist of five different types of forest mainly: lowland dipterocarp. hill dipterocarp. upper dipterocarp, montane oak and montane ericaceous. The number of mammal species recorded were: Ulu Lepar Forest Reserve (22), Taman Negara (29), Endau Forest Reserve (21) and the proposed Sungai Nenggiri Wildlife Reserve (31). For birds, the number of species recorded were: Ulu Lepar F.R. (109), Taman Negara (163), Endau F.R. (121). the proposed Sungai Nenggiri Wildlife Reserve (106), 'Perlis F.R: (124), Sungkai Wildlife Reserve (931. Krau Wildlife Reserve (Kuala Lompat) (89) and Gunung Jerai F.R. (47). The total number of mammal and bird species recorded in all areas were 41 and 282 respectively.
