With the continuous threat on fuel shortage, wind energy is harnessed to prime agricultural activities. While numerous type of windmills are already available in the market, there is a growing interest and need of wind energy extraction systems with other blade shapes and structural configurations. This paper aims to develop a wind-driven water pump for supplemental irrigation. Relevant design criteria such as functionality and simplicity in construction and operation are considered in the design phase. The wind-driven water pump is a combination of Savonius wind turbine and centrigugal pump. Performance of the wind turbine was tested on a wind turbine and centrifugal pump. Performance of the wind turbine was tested on a wind tunnel using a scale model. Characteristics such as torque, shaft speed and power coefficient are measured under 15%, 20% and 25% overlap ratio and test wind speeds of 2.62 m/s, 3.25 m/s, and 3.86 m/s. The 20% overlap ratio yields the best wind turbine performance in all wind speeds. Its performance is used to predict the performance is used to predict the performance of full-scale wind turbine which is 4.88 times the size of the scale model. The predicted values are simulated on a pump test rig using torque/speed control mechanism. Pump performance is tested under variation in torque and shaft speed as a function of wind speed.
