[Effect of red light and far light in rhizogenesis and callus formation of cotyledons of Castanea sativa Mill]

Cotyledon pieces taken from Castanea sativa Mill seeds were germinated in sterile conditions, and cultured in a defined medium supplemented with IBA (indole-3-butyric acid) and BAP (6-benzylaminopurine) under different spectral regions of light. Red light enhances root formation when IBA (0,1 and 1 mg/l) is added to the cultures. BAP, both alone, and in combination with IBA, prevent root formation, while callus growth is increased. Red followed by far red light makes callogenesis more evident
