Soil compaction and corn yield as affected by tillage system [study conducted in the Philippines]
1982
Gregorio, R.P.
The effects of three tillage systems on soil compaction and yield of corn on an Adtuyon clay loam soil was evaluated. The three tillage systems studied varied from the conventional two plowing plus two harrowing to a zero tillage system. An intermediate system of two harrowing prior to planting was also included. Weeded and unweeded treatments were added as another treatment factor. Statistical analysis failed to show any significant effect of the three tillage system on the corn yield, height, soil bulk density, cone index and moisture content. Initial findings indicate that the degree of tillage studied did not affect the yield of corn in the Adtuyon clay loam soil of Bukidnon. Weeded plots, whether tilled or untilled gave significantly higher yield than unweeded plots. This indicates that if some sort of weed control practice can be adapted, tillage operations can be reduced to a minimum
