[Possibilities to reduce water and energy on irrigation machines]

Irrigation of agricultural crops is one of the most effective measures to secure world food supply. Labor costs could be reduced substantially by transition from pipe irrigation systems to irrigation machines. Now machine and investment costs, especially costs of water become more important. After a short survey on the present status of irrigation methods, possibilities are explained to lower work and capital required by various methods. Special emphasis, however, should be placed on water and energy saving efforts.
