Effect of time of boll set on seed oil content in upland cotton

In a 6-week study oil contents showed a less increase in early set bolls, followed by a more increase and finally a sharp decline in the bolls set during the last 2 or 3 weeks in 'SA 1169' (both high-oil lines), 'SA 1060' and 'SA 229' (both low-oil lines) of upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum Linn.). Significant lines by week of boll set interactions were detected for seed-oil percentage and seed weight in the high-oil lines. Low-oil lines differed in seed weight. Differences in content of oil per seed due to time of boll set were significant in both high- and low-oil lines
