Information flow and the management of document holdings in the International System of Scientific and Technical Information on Agriculture and Forestry (IS AGROINFORM), a branch subsystem of the International System of Scientific and Technical Information (ISSTI) of the USSR, are briefly described. The objective of IS AGROINFORM is to meet complex agroindustrial information needs on the basis of the efficient utilization of the scientific and technical potential of the COMECON member countries. Cooperation within IS AGROINFORM concentrates on information services to national and international consumers, introduction of automated systems, development of the system, and the supply of information by-products. The collection of information at IS AGROINFORM comprises primary sources including serial publications, books, thesis abstracts, reference publications, standard and technical documents such as patents, catalogues flyers, etc., and secondary sources (bibliographic indexes, abstract collections, reviews, etc2044.). IS AGROINFORM holds approximately 6000 serial titles of the 7000 in the world. 200-300 journals are evaluated each year within the system. The holdings are maintained both in the traditional bibliographic and abstract form and in computerized databases. Evidence is given on the completeness of the IS AGROINFORM on several agriculture-related subjects. Journals are considered to be one of the most important information sources, and they represent 70% of the information flow of IS AGROINFORM.
