Studies on the morphology and life cycle of Thomasiniana oleisuga Targ. (Dipt., Cecidomyiidae) in Jordan [monitoring all insect's stages; correction of some publications about its population sites and larval exit holes; new measures of control suggested]

Detailed morphological studies on all stages of Thomasiniana oleisuga Targ. were made. Average life span of adults was 2.12 d, pre oviposition period 1.3 d and ratio of females to males was 1.78 : 1. Eggs hatch in 2.92 d., larval period averaged 12.7 - 16.6 d., as larvae living in the same tunnel do not mature in the same developmental period even if they hatch from eggs laid on the same day. Prepupal and pupal1800 periods were 2 - 3 and 7.78 d. respectively. In the light of the above information on its life cycle and correction of some publications about its pupation sites and larval exit holes, new measures of control are suggested: a. Treat wounds on branches and prune to avoid wound formation made by rubbing the close branches against each other when they are moved by the wind; b. Use soil insecticides to kill pupating larvae; c. Mark artificial wounds made on olive branches to collect the eggs during the egg-laying
