A laboratory and field experiment was conducted to find out the changes of number of soil microorganisms and their activity under different cropping systems against Chinese cabbage and radish with rotation of hot-pepper, garlic, melon, potato and sudan grass in upland soil. Cropping system as crop rotation and crop continuation has enhanced more the changes of number of soil bacteria than that of seasonal changes or year variation. The changes of num1369ber of soil bacteria were inhibited more in continued crop soil than soils of rotation. On the other hand, high number of bacteria were obtained in cropping soil than that of fallowed land
