Induction of somatic embryos and germination of encapsulated embryos in celery

The effect of hormones on the somatic embryogenesis, especially on the singulation and uniformity of somatic embryos of celery (Apium graveolens L.) and the possibility of artificial seed production were studied. Calli were induced from the leaf and stem segments on the MS medium supplemented with 2,4-D and sucrose. The optimal levels of 2,4-D and sucrose concentrations in primary medium for the development of somatic embryos were 2.0 ppm and 6 %, respectively. Proembryo with suspensor-like structure, which was typical phenomenon in zygotic embryogenesis, was observed infrequentl1361y in the surface of callus transfered to the secondary medium supplemented with 0.5 ppm 2
