An experiment was carried out to study the effects of shading rate and gibberellin (GA) concentration on the growth and yield of butterbur in southern Korea, with four shading rates (0, 23, 44, 57 %) and for GA concentration levels (0, 10, 20, 30 ppm). Optimum shading rate for the growth of butterbur was 23-44 %. Optimum GA concentration was up to 30 ppm in the plot of non-shading and 57 % shading, and leaf width became narrow as GA concentration increased. CGR, LAR and PRSU were high in the plots of 23-44 % shading. Contents of T-N, P2O5, MgO of petiole were high in the plot of 44 % shading, and low in t1824he plots of 57 % shading and non-shading. And CaO content was increased up to 30 ppm of GA concentration, but the contents of T-N, P2O5, K2O and MgO in petiole were high in the plot of 20ppm of GA concentrat
