Temperature response of azolla species
1986
Ventura, T. | Watanabe, I.
For all the growth conditions tested, the nitrogen content decreased with increasing temperature. Effect of temperature to biomass production and acetylene reduction activity varied with specie. The results indicated that differential response to high temperature was Azolla microphylla Azolla pinnata; Azolla mexicana Azolla filiculoides. The best tolerance to high temperature among the strains tested was exhibited by Azolla microphylla no. 418. The nature and amount of inoculum are critical in conducting temperature experiments on azolla. An inoculum rate of 0.2 kg fresh weight/m2 and ARA [acetylene reduction activity] measurements at 0, 2 and 4 days are suitable for a faster screening of azolla strains
