An attempt to determine shear stress of particular parts of two chosen maize hybrids was discussed. The influence of knife working parameters on shear stress was determined. It was found that the BC-183 hybrid required about 30% stronger shear stress compared to that required for the KB-270 hybrid. In both hybrids shear stress increased with increasing water content in the plants
