The caecilian fauna of Thailand

Recent survey of the caecilian fauna of Thailand was carried out by the Ecological Research Division, Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research and Dr. Werner Himstedt of Institut fur Zoologie, Technische, F.R. Germany, emphasizing on the ecology and present distribution of this least-known amphibian. Although intensive searches were conducted in the north and the south of the country, including all type-localities; only two out of five known species were found. Ichthyophis kohtaoensis was found in Chiang Mai from plain to the elevation of 18,000 m and about the mean sea level in Surat Thani. Ichthyophis supachaii was found as larvae only in Nakhon Si Thammarat.
