Testing the performance of the modified cylindrical fixed-head sprinkler

A sprayer sprinkler of cylindrical shape was modified and suggested to be used for irrigation. The model specification are 53 mm (ID) and 53 mm depth with different orifice sizes and a chamber height of 30 mm of a tangential inlet pipe of 12 mm (ID). The performance test was carried out in an indoor space to study the effect of different combination sets of total pressure, nozzle size and spacing on water distribution. It was found that the equivalent wetted diameter is non-linearly related to the total head. The suitable spacing between laterals and sprinklers was found to be 50-60 % of the equivalent wetted diameter. The suitable total pressure head was 24 m for different nozzle sizes. The uniformity coeffifient was inversely related to the nozzle size at a given head. The suggested sprayer sprinkler may be a promising device for irrigation in nurseries and greenhouses
