Zonal variations investigation of Al-Hammar marsh environment

The sedimentological studies of Al-Hammar marsh and Euphrates tails sediments reveal that most of the studied samples are of sandy mud and mud representing fluvial environmental deposition. The mineralogical studies show no significant variations in mineral composition and the results reflect the existence of quartz, feldspar, calcite, clay minerals and gypsum to less extent. Three zonal variations were indicated by the Co/Ni ratio of the studied sediments. The same features were identified using a triangular diagram of the anions matrix of Al-Hammar marsh water. Such a zonal variation is believed to be responsible for clay mineral alteration within the studied sediments
