In the Federal Republic of Germany the ongoing debate on pesticides in groundwater is carried on on a broad basis. In order to be able to cope with the problems arising primarily as a result of the ultratrace limit value, it is necessary to elaborate joint concepts of agriculture, waterworks and industry. The agrochemical industry wants to present its contribution in form of a 'concept for the minimization of the discharge of pesticides into groundwater' and put it up for discussion. The agrochemical industry sees the long-term focus in terms of minimization on the fields of research and development and the short-term targets mainly in the fields of education and consulting of the user, who is to be increasingly informed about the possible discharges of pesticides into groundwater and the relevant strategies of avoidance
